Sidney Lumet (1924-2011) Shown here in 1975, on the set of Dog Day Afternoon with Al Pacino, Lumet directed some of the finest films of the last fifty years (12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon, Network), as well a handful of really good ones (Serpico, The Verdict, Running on Empty, Before the Devil Knows Your Dead). He died this morning at his home in Manhattan.
